Hey!

One quick tip today and then I am off to my next call. I just shared this with a client and I thought you might like it. This tip is useful whether you are a career professional posting on Linkedin, a blogger, a local business, or a CEO...

TIP OF THE DAY:

Do the Coffee Shop Test:

Many professionals and experts spend significant time trying to create the perfect social media post, or reel, or caption, or piece of content. (Womp Womp, and it gets 3 views)

The challenge lately in the timeline we are living in, that super polished language, (cough... many times written by Ai) may sound nice in the shell, but it does not build trust and connection because it's not authentic to you.

People are more likely to trust a person who sounds like themselves than someone who sounds like a glazed over marketing campaign.

So do the coffee shop test...

If you were at a local coffee shop with someone you were connected with professionally, would YOU say the sentence like that?

If you would not say it in a coffee shop chat, rewrite it how you would actually say it.

A few ways this becomes easier in practice:

• Read your content out loud before posting it. This is a big one. You can also use this to identify where your messaging gets clunky. I have been doing this since I wrote for the high school newspaper!

Replace flawless jargon with words you naturally use in conversation

• Focus on being clear rather than impressive

You've got this. Let me know if this was helpful to you! I will share more!

I am so grateful to be speaking virtually to the National Speaker Association of IL this Friday!

You don't have to be a member to come. Here is the description of the session! Register here.
The client experience you design, from being visible to discovery to getting paid, becomes your brand.

In this interactive session, you’ll see how to let that brand do the heavy lifting, making you more well-known and easier to hire for the speaking engagement. We’ll walk through the experience stage by stage: Here’s what you’ll walk away with:

  • How to be discoverable by the people who hire speakers
  • How to control the experience of what a planner sees, hears, and reads about you before you ever speak to them
  • How to use social media to build trust instead of adding to generic noise and getting frustrated
  • How to define the gap in your processes and systems that stop you from getting paid.
  • How to establish a repeatable process to be highly referable.

Shape your personal brand in your favor instead of leaving it to chance.
