Personal Branding doesn't have to feel slimy

Morning!

My brain might explode. I have heard all of these in the last month...

  • "NEVER say HOW ARE YOU? when networking; it makes you sound weak."
  • "You can ONLY make $400K per MONTH if you use this strategy."
  • "If you don't use this ___ strategy, it's ok, you don't want it enough."
  • "Don't EVER start your posts with a question! The old way is DEAD."
  • "Organic social media is DEAD."
  • "Paid Ads are DEAD"
  • "Gotta pay to play to see traction now."
  • "Instagram is DEAD"
  • "LINKED IN IS DEAD"
  • "TIKTOK is DEAD"
  • "You gotta be on TikTok if you don't want to be left behind."
  • "You have to be on Substack."
  • "LinkedIn is the only platform you should focus on!"
  • "You have to use ChatGPT or your business will die, and you'll be replaced by tech."
  • "BOYCOTT CHATGPT. Your customers won't trust you unless you completely eliminate it..."
  • "Use Claude instead!"
  • "Use Gemini instead!"
  • "Use my friend's wife's best friend's indie startup AI software company instead!"
  • "You MUST make video if you want to survive."
  • "Follow these viral trends to make money!"
  • "This EXACT strategy will make you 8-figure income quarters."

Did you know only approximately 20,000 to 25,000 of U.S. households report making 8 figures ($10 million or more) annually. This elite group represents less than (0.02%) of all taxpayers in the U.S..

It's wild how ALL of them seem to be making reels on Instagram with their "secrets." If I were making 8-figures per quarter, I'd be on a yacht with my third Bloody Mary of the day. (Please note the giant amount of sarcasm.)

Maybe it's the life I've lived, but I am particularly sensitive to manipulation. I can smell it from a mile away, and I frequently have to fix my face (as my friend Erin calls it) when I see it happening in real time.

It's why I'm so committed to doing the tangible things that actually work with my clients and building the muscle that reminds them they can trust themselves.

I want you to build something you feel genuinely great about because it is what magnetizes people to you.

When I start working with someone, it almost always begins the same way. They say, "I heard I have to..." and then fill in the blank with whatever superlative-laced claim is making the rounds that week.

I wish I could show them immediately that there are a hundred ways to do what they want to do. But that realization that they can trust their instinct takes time, and effort on the steps that get traction. I respect that in-between moment.

Here's what I keep coming back to:

→ Strategic concepts can be similar across businesses.

→ But the tactics that work are deeply personal.

Choosing tactics that are right for you:

Your personality, your clients, your life. Holy moly, it matters so more than choosing the ones that worked for someone else.

The moment you find that fit is the moment your business starts to shift.

If you're tired of feeling bamboozled by the exaggerations of online "sages," and you want to love your business again, we might be a good fit to work together in some capacity.

And if you're looking for a speaker who won't exhaust your audience with inflated claims, but instead give them real steps they can use, I'm your person.

Do you have any other funny superlative claims you have heard? Reply and let me know. I will add them to my social post!

Oh, and by the way, If you would like to join a highly intentional, small, and growth-minded business mastermind, I have a few open spots starting in July in two different groups.

We have very little turnover, which means spots don't open often, so this is a great opportunity to head into FALL with a refreshed perspective on your business and life. Don't wait til January; get a head start.

It will meet on Thursday afternoons/evenings. For more information, head over here.
