Hello! I am nerdy about you getting paid, so I wanted to share this... My friend Teresa Heath-Wareing interviewed me for her podcast and before the interview, I emailed and asked how I could best serve her audience. She wrote back and said, "I think lots of people desire to be paid for all speaking gigs and the truth is, that many don't pay. How can you use any speaking gig to boost your income?" And of course, I got way too excited about this topic and had so much fun with the interview. I'll let you know when that episode airs. Afterwards, I was inspired so I recorded a (15 min) solo episode for The Real Personal Branding Podcast about the same topic. Truly friend, some of my most profitable speaking gigs haven't come with a traditional check, believe it or not. Before I say yes, I look into 3 buckets.
This means I scope audience fit, vs just speaker fee. I look into who I’ll reach and how I will be able to connect with them, and ask myself how that aligns with my goals. I take note of the additional offers like email exposure, bonus services, and co-branded marketing opportunities. I ask myself which events are stepping stones for networking, credibility, and future paid opportunities and think about how to position myself. I have a framework (that covers how to do this and WAY more) that I use before I say yes to any PAID or UNPAID speaking opportunity, and make it a business booster (even without pitching.)
